My Interview with Acharya Shunya, Author of ‘Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom’

Hi Everybody,

I just finished my interview with Acharya Shunya, talking about the ancient tradition of Ayurveda, which means Wisdom of Life. Along with the tradition of yoga, which has gained so much international attention as a means to physical, mental, and spiritual balance, an Ayurvedic lifestyle is an integral part of yogic life. It too is about balance, and it’s focus is on balancing one’s health and well being from the inside out. It starts with an awareness of the diurnal, the solar and the lunar rhythms, or the body, the sun and the moon cycles, and how to work with those rhythms to enhance one’s well being. It then moves on to the subtle matter states, which regulates one’s body functions and psyche, known as the three dosha’s, Vata (wind), Pitta (fire) and Kapha (water). Depending on which dosha is dominant in a person, affects their personality, and when it is out of balance, one can develop symptoms that can be addressed through Ayurvedic practices.

Acharya Shunya‘s book, Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom: A Complete Prescription to Optimize Your Health, Prevent Disease and Live with Vitality and Joyis a guidebook to learning about this ancient tradition and putting it into practice. It is simple to follow, and is designed so that you can start slowly and pick up little pieces at a time, and put them into practice. She has some great recipes in the book for treating ailments like insomnia, constipation, loss of energy, loss of sexual drive, dry skin, etc., as well as some recipes for detoxing. They are all worth checking out! Ayurveda Wisdom supports the concept of “Food as Medicine”, and can be combined with, and can enhance your current food choices.

Acharya Shunya is the founder of Vedika Global, a spiritual community, center, and school, dedicated to awakening health and consciousness via three systems of knowledge: Ayurveda, Yoga, and Vedanta. Together, these ancient knowledge systems rejuvenate and help give birth to deeper dimensions of our own being. Acharya Shunya is also the president of the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine.
