In this lively event hosted by national bestselling author Anna Lappé, leaders from Kaua’i will talk about how Hawai’i is leading the way in both resisting the agrochemical industry and envisioning a food future rooted in indigenous wisdom and aloha ‘āina (love for the land). Anne Frederick, the executive director of the Hawai’i Alliance for Progressive Action (HAPA), will talk about the long struggle for common sense regulation of pesticides in Hawai’i. Native Hawaiian mother, educator and cultural practitioner, Malia Chun will talk about living with her two daughters on the frontlines of the agrochemical test fields on the westside of Kaua’i and growing the next generation of culturally grounded leaders. Both will share the David vs. Goliath story about the organizing that resulted in the exciting state-wide regulations that protect children’s health and includes the country’s first ban on the toxic insecticide, chlorpyrifos.
We’ll discuss local efforts to ban chlorpyrifos over light refreshments. Please join us for this great event!
