Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all enjoying your summer and welcoming the break in the heat wave, here in New York! I know I am! The heat has been brutal out in the gardens, and I feel my plants smiling in the rain!
On Monday evening, I had the pleasure of joining fellow NOFA-NY supporters in a farm tour of Garden of Eve Organic Farm, followed by a pot-luck and discussion on how NOFA-NY can support our Long Island Farmers. We discussed the upcoming Climate of Change Gala, scheduled for August 23rd in Poughkeepsie, with Isabella Rossellini as our guest speaker, Scott Chaskey as our Master of Ceremonies, a farm-to-table dinner with open bar, and the silent and live auctions. We also explored topics for workshops and round tables at the NOFA-NY Winter Conference in Syracuse. It was a great time, and we all agreed that strengthening our community of Long Island Farmers and revitalizing our local NOFA-NY Chapter was a good thing! Stay tuned for the next LI Chapter of NOFA pot-luck at Browder Birds Farm in October!
My guest this Thursday is Ocean Robbins, the CEO, and co-founder of Food Revolution Network, and author of the national bestseller, 31-Day Food Revolution: Heal Your Body, Feel Great, and Transform Your World. Ocean has held hundreds of live seminars and events around the world and touched millions of lives. He is the founder and was director of the nonprofit YES!, which has led transformational events for 650,000 leaders in 65 nations. He’s a recipient of the national Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service, the Freedom’s Flame Award, the Harmon Wilkinson Award, and numerous other honors. Ocean has served as adjunct professor for Chapman University, and on the boards of Friends Of The Earth, Creating Our Future, Tipping Point Network, Turning Tide Coalition, and many other organizations.
Ocean’s grandfather founded Baskin-Robbins, and his father, John Robbins, walked away from the family company and ice cream fortune to write bestsellers, including Diet for a New America, and to become a renowned health advocate. Now, Ocean is on a mission to transform the industrialized food culture into one that celebrates and supports healthy people and a healthy planet, and he’s coming on my show to invite us all to join the food revolution. I hope you can join us on Thursday!!
