Take Action: Hold NY Accountable for Cleaning Up Our Waterways! Tell Your Senators: School Food Service Workers Need Our Help Now! “All Natural” Doesn’t Have to Mean “All Natural!”

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) needs to impose limits on sewage and stormwater pollution, to make New York City’s waters safe for swimming. Riverkeeper, Save the Sound, NRDC and other partners have sued the agency, but it is still lingering in court.

Using COVID-19 as an excuse, last week New York State rolled back the regulations that would require the city to clean up the billions of gallons of sewage and stormwater that contaminates our waterways each year.

These grassroots organizations need our help to prevent the state from evading its obligation to strengthen water quality criteria to protect public health. The state is trying to avoid federal review of its action by wrongly claiming its action is a “clarification” of existing law rather than a rule change. Please join us in asking the Environmental Protection Agency to weigh in and reject the regulatory rollback. The deregulation is unlawful without a Use Attainability Analysis to support removal of the primary recreation designated use. Don’t let New York State throw in the towel on our city’s waters.

Tell Your Senators: School Food Service Workers Need Our Help Now!

Schools have become a frontline in the COVID-19 pandemic, feeding struggling families in their communities. For many children, these are the only meals they’ll receive that day or week. Fortunately, Congress has started to listen to our concerns. The House of Representatives passed its latest stimulus bill in May—the Heroes Act—which provides necessary supports for school meal programs. After weeks of stalling, the Senate finally plans to take up its own stimulus package this month.

That’s why we need you to weigh in with your Senators today.

“All Natural” Doesn’t Have to Mean “All Natural!”

Can a smoked salmon product, made from farmed salmon, fed a diet of chemicals, artificial color, and antibiotics, be called “All Natural”? The answer is “yes”, even though it should be “NO”

It’s called false advertising, and companies do it all the time. It should be illegal!

The word “Natural”or “All Natural” is often used to hook consumers into thinking the product is “All Natural” when in fact it doesn’t have to meet any standards at all. Don’t fall for the bait!

According to a recent consumer survey, when it comes to label claims, “natural” is the one consumers find the most important. In fact, more than 40 percent of consumers surveyed said “natural” claims influence their grocery store purchases.

Testing on farmed salmon has routinely revealed concerning levels of PCBsand dioxins.

Some farmed salmon have even been found to contain ethoxyquin, a chemical developed by Monsanto and used in the manufacture of tires.
