In the News: Long Island Schools Can Finally Purchase Milk from NY State and Qualify for Reimbursement!

For years, New York State has been offering schools an initiative, known as the 30% NYS Initiative. Purchase at least 30% of all of your food products from NY State, and you will qualify for an additional reimbursement for each lunch. It adds up to big money for a school lunch program and a great incentive. However, Long Island schools had a problem. Even though our milk may have been produced in New York, it was being packaged in New Jersey, and therefore, it did not qualify for the reimbursement.

I was just notified, that as of September 21, 2021, Cream-O-Land, (the New Jersey based Company that supplies Long Island schools with their milk) has agreed to supply NYS Authorized Users with milk from NYS farmers only, in order to facilitate reimbursement.  This is such great news! It supports our local farmers, our local economy, and our school lunch program.
