iEat Green Joins NOFA-NY for Strategic Planning; Bhavani Welcomes Michael Moss, Investigative Journalist and Author of “Hooked: Food, Free Will and How the Food Giants Exploit Our Addictions” on PRN!

Hi Everyone,

As many of you know, I am on the board of NOFA-NY (Northeast Organic Farming Association-NY) I’m writing this blog from upstate at our annual board meeting retreat. We had to skip last year due to Covid, and it’s so nice to see everyone in person!  The pandemic has created havoc in most peoples lives, and how it has effected NOFA is no exception. We lost a few staff members and those who have remained have had to pick up the slack. Our focus during the retreat is to come up with a strategic plan that can take us into the next decade. I’m sharing this with you because I continue to be so impressed by the work they are doing and their mission of bringing organic food into the mainstream, and for the integrity and quality of their certification program. Unlike many other certifiers, NOFA’s inspectors are knowledgeable and thorough, and you can feel confident about any product that has the NOFA-NY Certification. Like with so many non-profits, funding is always a challenge, and NOFA-NY’s Winter Conference, along with membership, are our main sources of revenue. Please consider joining NOFA-NY, and joining our virtual Winter Conference this year! We have over 80 workshops and discussion groups already planned, and it is a great opportunity for networking. I hope to see you there!

Michael Moss, Investigative Journalist and Author of  “Hooked: Food, Free Will and How the Food Giants Exploit Our Addictions,” Joins Bhavani on the Progressive Radio Network!

I’m very excited to welcome Michael Moss to my show tomorrow. Michael Moss is the author of “Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us,” an expose of the processed food industry and a #1 New York Times Bestseller published in 2013 by Random House. His most recent book, published in 2021, Hooked: Food, Free Will and How the Food Giants Exploit Our Addictions, is also a New York Times Bestseller. He is a former investigative reporter with The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting in 2010 for his work on contaminated meat. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and their two sons.

I hope you can join us on Thursday for an eye opening exposé of the food industry, and how they intentionally design their foods to get us hooked. Once again, it’s the story of big corporations putting profit over people, and letting greed be their guide.
