Monday, January 17th; Reconnect and Reimagine Food: An MLK Culinary Celebration!

January 17, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a culinary adventure featuring Black chefs from our local community. Tune in to see their consecutive demonstrations of plant-powered cultural dishes, including Dr. King’s favorite food, and hear lively discussions moderated by Nina Curtis, Director and Executive Chef for the Adventist Health Vitaliz Café and Culinary Arts department in Roseville, CA, and hosted by Rebecca Johnson, PPMNY Culinary Organizer. These plant-powered chefs will share their personal journeys of empowering themselves and others to take control of their health through whole food, plant-based living. We’ll be joined by Chefs Brandy Cochrane, Thomas Stevens, Balé Shabaka Kaza-Amlak, and Kele Nkhereanye.

As we celebrate the life, work, vision, and ministry of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. we seek to reconnect with indigenous food-ways and form new awareness around nutrient-dense eating to promote making choices that build a thriving body and mind. This celebration will be an inspirational time of learning how to cook and eat in ways that can help reverse and prevent the many conditions that continue to ravage the health of the African American community.
