Hi All,
I just spent most of my day today (Tuesday) at Lehman College, for the public hearing on the proposed GMO Bill,?#A-3525-A, introduced by Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal. This bill would require NYS to label all food products that contain any GMO ingredients. Basically, that means almost all, non-organic, processed foods. GMO’s are in everything! The testimony was strong from all of the supporters of the proposed bill, and it was obvious that the crowd in the room was in favor of the labeling law. As always, I feel empowered when I participate in the democratic process, and I continue to learn the importance of letting our voices be heard. We all need to speak up and become active in the process! It is the only hope we have in changing our current food system and our environmental impact on the planet.
This past weekend, my husband and I ventured out to the North Fork of the Island, and visited many organic farms, local breweries and wineries. What fun we had! If you haven’t made the trip, I highly recommend it! Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to visit all of the places I wanted to see, but we did manage to have dinner at 18 Bay, the beautiful restaurant on Shelter Island that is run by Elizabeth Ronzetti and Adam Kopels, former Slow Food Huntington members. The food was delicious, the ambiance divine, and the service impeccable.
This Saturday, August 3rd, I will be doing another free cooking demo at the Shiloh Community Farmers Market in Wyandanch. Come on down and pick up a few cooking tips on how to turn your farmers market vegetables into a delicious, mouth watering, healthy meal! Also, on Friday, August 9th, I will be participating in the Grown on Long Island’s Seafood Throw-Down, which is a friendly competition on how to prepare a “surprise” fish with 2 secret ingredients. It should be a real fun time!
