Course Synopsis:
Learn about multiple approaches to growing food on rooftops through design and maintenance principles, and case studies drawn from across North America. This course:
- Familiarizes participants with the diversity of physical applications of urban agriculture and the growing technologies that apply.
- Explores the social, environmental and economic benefits of urban agriculture and rooftop farming.
- Describes the governance, personnel and economic options for implementing urban agriculture and rooftop farming systems and operations.
- Examines the conditions that lead to a successful urban agriculture project.
- Identifies strategies for overcoming common challenges associated with developing an urban agriculture/rooftop farming project.
- Describes basic installation and maintenance principles.

Following the course, an optional tour and lunch will be offered at Brooklyn Grange commercial rooftop farm in Navy Yard.

Tuition:
Tuition is $175 US for GRHC members, and $199 for non-members. Tuition includes an 85-page course manual.
Admission for the tour and lunch at Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm is $50.
If paying by cheque, please note it must be received in our office no later than one week before the event. Registrations may be canceled by a participant up to THREE DAYS prior to the event, and will incur a $50 cancellation fee. We regret that we cannot cancel a registration after that point.
