Hi All,
Today I had a great interview with Adam Weissman, founder of Global Justice for Animals and the Environment, and a partner organization with TradeJustice New York Metro,to discuss the pending trade agreement Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). It was one of the most informative interviews I have ever had, because I knew so little about TPP, and how this trade agreement would effect me and my food choices. I also didn’t understand what was meant by “Fast Track”, that President Obama was pushing through Congress. Well, it turns out that Fast Track is essentially a set of rules that gives Congress permission to give the power back to our President to negotiate on our behalf, and to expedite the Treaty, without an opportunity for Congress to deliberate and to make changes. The TPP is being negotiated right now, behind closed doors, and is a trade agreement for corporations, to enable them to do business in other countries with less stringent laws, where they can exploit people and the environment. It is basically the equivalent of a Global Monsanto Protection Act, which would allow corporations to sue countries that limit their ability to make as much profit as possible, due to laws that are set up to protect the people or environment. It’s just unbelievable! Please go to Global Justice’s website and TradeJustice’s website to learn more, and please call your elected Representatives, and tell them not to approve the Fast Track!
