Check Out iEat Green’s Interview with Brett Tolley and Hear About the Slow Fish Campaign

Hi All,

Yesterday I had a great conversation and interview with Brett Tolley, the Community Coordinator for the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance and a Core Founder of the Slow Fish Campaign.

Brett is working to raise awareness about the work of our local fisherman, to help build direct relationships between fisherman and the buyer, to build the CSF movement (Community Supported Fisheries), to bring the Slow Food principles

of good, clean and fair food to the arena of sustainable fishing. He works hard at helping people understand the distinction between large scale, industrial fishing, and our fisherman going out on a boat, even if both are called “sustainable.”

brettWe live on a coast where fishing is abundant, yet 90% of all of the fish consumed in this country is imported, and only 1% is inspected for either safety or authenticity in species. Brett acknowledged the immense fraud that takes place in the fishing market and recommends that instead of just asking if this fish is “wild” or not, we take it to the next step and ask the purveyor or restaurateur, what boat did the fish arrive on? That’s really the only way to trace the fish. Anyway, the interview is filled with great information and stories, so if you missed it, you can listen to the podcast below.
