January 18-20 2019!
This year’s theme—Climate of Change—recognizes the ever-changing world in which we live. It is not only climate change, but also changing markets, changing policies, and a changing understanding of how we relate to the earth and each other. Through this theme, we’ll explore how we can remain resilient as an organic community.
Leah Penniman is the Co-Director & Program Manager of Soul Fire Farm and author of the book, Farming While Black: Soul Fire Farm’s Practical Guide to Liberation on the Land. Leah is a Black Kreyol farmer who has been tending the soil for twenty years and organizing for an anti-racist food system for fifteen years.
Fred and Karen Lee operate Sang Lee Farms with their son William, Lucy Senesac, and many other dedicated staff. Certified organic by NOFA-NY in 2007, Sang Lee Farms produces more than 100 varieties of specialty vegetables, heirloom tomatoes, baby greens, and herbs. The Lees and their staff run a CSA program and farm stand, sell at four local farmers markets, and produce a line of value-added products.
Hosted by NOFA-NY’s 2019 Winter Conference, the Second Biennial Northeast Organic Seed Conference will feature in-depth seed saving and plant breeding workshops for beginners and experts alike. We’ll share regional seed stories and traditions with other growers, exchange seeds at the seed swap, and build seed sovereignty and seed security for our communities.
