NYC PREMIERE Plastic, a seemingly indispensable product, has wrought all sorts of innovations, but at what cost? The plastic industry’s success depends on consumers discarding the product and purchasing new items, creating an endless supply of litter that lingers forever. Filmmaker Deia Schlosberg’s incredibly detailed investigation into the plastic-production pipeline will shock, horrify and forever change your perception on recycling. Timely and critical, this film is a must-see for anyone who uses this infamous product.
Big Oil and Big Plastic love the narrative they’ve created: that better waste management and recycling will solve the plastic pollution crisis. The truth is, it won’t. The true story of plastic is that you probably don’t fully know where plastic comes from or where it goes because you’ve been lied to by Big Oil and multinational brands.
The film exposes the roots of the current global plastics crisis but also features the international network of heroes who are fighting back. We just premiered The Story of Plastic at the Mill Valley Film Festival, where we shared the film with sold-out audiences and won the audience favorite award in our category.
They are very excited for NY audiences to see it. Saturday’s screening will be followed by a Q&A with myself, Stiv Wilson (Executive Producer), and some of the amazing heroes from the film including Carroll Muffett, President, Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), and activist Elise Gerhart of Camp White Pine, as well as my good friend, fractivist and Academy Award nominated filmmaker Josh Fox (Gasland, How To Let Go of the World and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change).
