Happy New Year to Those Celebrating! TrumpCare is Dead; Enrollment for ObamaCare Starts Earlier and Lasts Shorter; Steven Cecchini, From LI Activists Joins Bhavani on PRN

Hi All,

Last week I forgot to wish everyone celebrating the Jewish New Year a happy and healthy holiday. As the New Year holiday comes to a close, I wish you all a year filled with peace, love, health and prosperity. I hold in my prayers, all those living in war torn countries, under dictator regimes, in poverty and suffering. May we resist the hate and fear that is being promoted in our government, and spread the love and inclusiveness that is needed in our country and in the world.

I’m very happy to report that TrumpCare, the health bill that the Republicans were trying to get through Congress, does not have enough votes to pass, and so, once again, they are aborting the effort.  The Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, which is no longer very affordable, will continue. However, the government is not saying whether they will continue to honor their commitment to subsidize the payments to the insurance companies, leaving the whole system on unsteady ground. Also, the government has shortened the enrollment period, so instead of it starting in December and going for two months, enrollment will start on November 1st, and only go for 45 days. They also cut the funding for promoting the program, so many people will not know about the changes or when enrollment starts, so might miss the opportunity all together. It’s a very frustrating situation, and the government is doing everything they can to make it fail.

My guest this week on the Progressive Radio Network is Steven Cecchini, a farmer and activist working with Long Island Activists, to help promote the NY Health Act. LI Activists is a chapter of the NY Progressive Action Network, which is a coalition of over 25 grassroots progressive groups, working together to ensure that all people can live in a safe, just and fair environment. Steven’s focus is on healthcare, and he is a big promoter of the single payer system and the NY Health Act, which would provide health insurance for all New Yorkers. Steven works full time as an organic farmer at Restoration Farm, and helped start a farm for disables adults in Brentwood, Long Island. Please join me on Thursday, to learn more about the NY Health Act, and help make insurance for all a reality in New York!
