Hi Everyone,
I am so looking forward to this weekend’s CSA Fair! We have all been isolated during this pandemic year, and having the opportunity to be in the same place, at the same time, with our farming community, will be so healing. Of course we will be continuing with safe protocols, wearing masks and keeping socially distanced, but with the fair being outdoors, that should not be difficult.
The Long Island CSA Fair will be taking place this Saturday, March 13th from 11-3pm at the Sisters of St. Joseph, behind Building #4. In the event of rain, we will gather on Sunday instead, but as of now, Saturday is looking beautiful!! The address for the Sisters of St. Joseph’s is 1725 Brentwood Rd, Brentwood, NY 11717, but to get to the parking lot where the event is, enter using the 2nd Ave entrance at 104 Second Ave in Brentwood.
We have also arranged for the Green Street Food Truck and Mike’s Knife Sharpening Truck to be there, to fill your bellies and to sharpen your knives. We hope to see you there!https://www.facebook.com
Dr. Neal Barnard, President of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and Author of Your Body in Balance: New Science of Food, Hormones and Health, Joins Bhavani on PRN!
Neal Barnard, MD, FACC, is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, and President of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
Dr. Barnard has led numerous research studies investigating the effects of diet on diabetes, body weight, and chronic pain, including a groundbreaking study of dietary interventions in type 2 diabetes, funded by the National Institutes of Health, that paved the way for viewing type 2 diabetes as a potentially reversible condition for many patients. Dr. Barnard has authored more than 90 scientific publications and 20 books for medical and lay readers, and is the editor in chief of the Nutrition Guide for Clinicians, a textbook made available to all U.S. medical students.
As president of the Physicians Committee, Dr. Barnard leads programs advocating for preventive medicine, good nutrition, and higher ethical standards in research. His research contributed to the acceptance of plant-based diets in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In 2015, he was named a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. In 2016, he founded the Barnard Medical Center in Washington, DC, as a model for making nutrition a routine part of all medical care.
I’m thrilled that Dr. Barnard will be joining me to talk about his latest book, Your Body in Balance: New Science of Food, Hormones and Health, and the effects of diet and nutrition in combating the pandemic. I hope you can join us on Thursday!
