iEat Green Interviewed Two of Long Island’s Top Community Organizers, Activists and Farmers, Heather Forest and Larry Foglia

Hi All,

This morning I had the privilege of interviewing Heather Forest and Larry Foglia, owners of Fox Hollow Farm and a local CSA in South Huntington. Heather and Larry have been involved in the heather_photo_10_smlocal food movement here on Long Island, ever since I can remember. They share their knowledge with anyone and everyone who has a desire to learn. They were founding members of the Long Island Community Agriculture Network, the Gateway Community Garden and most recently, The Grow to Give Project, where they built community gardens at churches and synagogues to grow vegetables for local food pantries. They created a full guide on the Grow to Give Project, for anyone to download, on how to get started and how to maintain a Grow to Give Garden. They also offer free larry_photo_15_smeducational workshops on gardening skills at local libraries, to help people get started with their own home gardens. One project that they are particularly proud of are the gardens for the North Shore Family and Child Guidance Center, where children grow vegetables for the food pantries, but also learn life lessons through garden metaphors and working together as a group. If you missed the interview, please check it out below.
