iEat Green Joins Hundreds at Schumer Rally; The 4th Annual Long Island Food and Film Feast is Around the Corner!; Is Hydroponic Really Organic? Tom O’Bryan, Author of The Autoimmune Fix, Joins Bhavani on the Progressive Radio network

Hi All,

The drama continues! Today, our lovely new Vice President Pence broke the tie, and our Congress officially confirmed the appointment of Betsy DeVos as our unqualified Education Secretary. It’s comforting to know that no grizzly bears will be able to get passed the front door, thanks to guns in schools! What a relief!

Everyday, I anxiously watch our live, reality, TV show, play out in Washington, while supporting those on the ground, trying to limit the damage. This past week, I joined hundreds of Long Islander’s and thousands across the state, at rallies outside of Senator Schumer’s offices, demanding that he take a stand and become a real leader for the Democratic Party. We need to protect the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) from Trump’s nominee, Scott Pruitt, who has a long history of lawsuits against the EPA and who is a climate denier!

As I make plans for the next Long Island Food and Film Feast, hosted by Slow Food North Shore and the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, I am confronted by a long debated issue around hydroponic vegetables, and whether they can be labeled organic, or whether they should have a new label all their own. The consensus among small, independent, organic farmers is that something can’t be called organic if it doesn’t meet the organic standards, which includes growing in soil and sunlight. Hydroponic vegetables are grown in pods, using enriched water and artificial light. The commonality is that both are free of pesticides and herbicides, but it might end there. Come join the debate, participate in a taste test, and add your voice to the discussion! The 4th Annual Long Island Food and Film Feast is scheduled for Sunday, March 12th at 6:30pm. This event always sells out, so get your tickets early!

My guest this week on the Progressive Radio Network is Tom O’Bryan, author of the The Autoimmune FixTom is an internationally recognized speaker and writer on chronic disease and metabolic disorders. He organized the popular Gluten Summit in November 2013, and has more than 30 years of experience as a functional medicine practitioner. In his book, The Autoimmune Fix, Dr. Tom O’Bryan incites a revolution against mediocre health and urges us to “wake up” by no longer accepting that our unfavorable symptoms or disease diagnoses are here to stay. Rampant chronic disease and autoimmune disorders are increasing and traditional medicine in the U.S. tends to treat only symptoms as they arise. With the empowering information set forth in this book, it is no longer necessary to sit back and accept the medical establishment’s reasoning behind your weight gain, fatigue and digestive issues. The science is in: your diet plays a key role in the presence of inflammation and the functioning of your immune system. This groundbreaking book also highlights the shocking revelation that many doctors are completely unaware of the latest medical research on the immune system, an area that has been producing the most new findings in medicine over the past 25 years. Please join us on Thursday, to hear what Dr. O’Bryan has to share!
