Hi Everybody,
After my show last week, I jumped on the train and made my way to NYC for the ‘Under One Sky NY‘ Rally, at the Dag Hammerskjold Plaza. While the turnout was a little disappointing, the spirit and energy of the event was uplifting and reaffirming of our priorities going into the future, to push our leaders to address and take action on poverty, inequality and climate change.
Yesterday, I was blessed with the help from a very energetic crew of young people from the River Fund Food Pantry. My garden has been a little neglected since my trip to Burning Man, but yesterday made up for it. We harvested all of the pears from my pear tree, did major damage on all of the weeds, and collected baskets of cherry tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, chard, kale, collards and green beans. The salad was a combination of every green leafy vegetable we could find, along with some Nasturtiums for color, and the stir fry made great use of all of the basil in the garden. For those of you who don’t know, The River Fund NY is the organization that I partner with for all of my community service projects during the holidays. Halloween is coming up, and the River Fund is turning their pantry into a spooky haunted house. They are looking for donations of candy or other treats for the goody bags. You can contact me or the River Fund directly, if you want to make a donation. Also, save your coats and cold weather items like blankets, sleeping bags, boots, hats etc. for our annual coat drive. items can be dropped off at iEat Green anytime. As a matter of fact, Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. Our Thanksgiving Feast will be on Tuesday, November 24th this year, so cooking will be happening the whole weekend before. A sign up document will be coming out in the next couple of weeks.
This Thursday, I am very excited to have as my guest on the Progressive Radio Network, Maurice Segall, the Director of the Pro Bono Partnership. Mo, as he is fondly known by his friends, provides direct legal services to nonprofit groups, coordinates and supervises the work of staff and volunteer attorneys, and frequently lectures on legal issues for nonprofits and attorneys. He is passionate about his work and was the recent recipient of the Liberty Bell Award from the Stamford/Norwalk Regional Bar for outstanding community service, the first practicing attorney ever to receive this honor. Please join me on Thursday, to learn more about the Pro Bono Partnership, and the work they do in providing free legal council to non-profit organizations.
