Hi Everyone,
I love this time of year! I feel so rejuvenated being back out in the garden, planting seeds, watching them grow, working with and mentoring young adults who want to learn about growing and cooking organic, delicious food, and returning to the Farmers Market. The Farmers Market is a place where you can feel community. I have the privilege of representing our local Slow Food Chapter, Slow Food North Shore, at the Port Washington Farmers Market every Saturday from 8am to 12 noon. The Port Washington Farmers Market, along with the Sea Cliff Farmers Market, are the only completely organic markets in all of NY State! The Port Washington Farmers Market is open from 8 AM to 12 PM at the Town Dock, off Main Street. They feature fresh organic produce from Long Island, goat cheese, honey, organic bread and baked goods, organic pasta, organic soap, flowers, their famous “market muffins” and scones, and fantastic organic coffee (with organic milk and organic sucanat!). The market is a sustainable living project of Grassroots Environmental Education, a non-profit organization based in Port Washington. Slow Food North Shore has a table there, where we share the principles of Slow Food, (good, clean and fair), give a tomato plant away, and engage in some great conversation. iEat Green makes some organic treats and we just hang out at the dock, with all the wonderful people. What could be better than that!
This week on the Progressive Radio Network, my guest will be Elise Golan, the Director for Sustainable Development at the US Dept. of Agriculture. Dr. Golan provides the leadership for planning, coordinating, and analyzing the Department’s various policies, programs and activities. She looks at their impact on sustainable agricultural, natural resources, and community development, including food security, and makes recommendations based on the data. I’m very excited to have Dr.Golan on my show and I hope you can join us!
Remember, my show is recorded live, every Thursday, from 10-11 am, EST. To tune in, navigate to PRN.fm and click the “Listen Live” button on the left.
