Hi All,
If you missed my interview this passed week on PRN with Amanda Oborne, you can listen to it below! Amanda is in charge of the Food and Farm division at EcoTrust, which is a non profit organization committed to inspiring fresh thinking, in order to create economic opportunity, social equity, and environmental well being. Their goal is to foster a natural model of development that creates more resilient communities, economies, and ecosystems both in the U.S. and around the world. Amanda is focusing her work on the local food system in and around the Portland, OR., area, by harnessing the purchasing power of schools and institutions, and connecting them to mid size farmers and ranchers in the region. They have been working on a local project called Redd, which will be a local food hub, complete with farmers, ranchers, fisherman, producers, chefs, non profit organizations, such as Food Corp, kitchens for processing, restaurants and markets. The first phase is set to open this September. The Redd is founded on the belief that creative food producers can work in concert with farmers, ranchers, and fishers to increase demand for regional food whose production not only does not deplete, but regenerates the soil, water and air, while at the same time creating delicious, healthy food that is affordable and accessible to everyone. I am confident that this can be a model for food hubs around the country, and look forward to having one in New York! If you missed my interview, check it out here!
