iEat Green Shares Interview with Anna Francese Gass, Author of Heirloom Kitchen

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I had an awesome conversation with Anna Francese Gass, the author of Heirloom Kitchen, about the stories and recipes in her book. All of the recipes are from first generation immigrants who came here from around the world with their favorite recipes imprinted in their brains, but not written down anywhere. Anna took the time to meet with all 40 women, from 35 countries, and documented every recipe, step by step.

As unique as each of the recipes were, Anna couldn’t help but notice the similarities. Every culture has some sort of dumpling, whether it’s called a dumpling, ravioli or pierogie, and every culture has some sort of pancake, whether it’s called a dosa, blintze, or crepe, and the list goes on. These recipes are their families connections to their homeland, filled with the comfort and love of family and the motherland.

Anna’s hope is that by transcribing these cherished recipes, they will continue to be shared and loved for generations to come. If you want to follow Anna, you can find her on Instagram and Facebook and if you missed our interview, you can listen to it below.
