iEat Green Shares Interview with Jay Feldman, Executive Director of Beyond Pesticides

Hi All,

I had a great interview yesterday with Jay Feldman about the dangers of pesticides and the lack of oversight and protection against them. Jay is the Executive Director of Beyond Pesticides, and we spent a great deal of time talking about the lack of testing in regards to pesticide safety levels, how they are endocrine disruptors, and how they effect children, pregnant women and people with pre-existing conditions, such as asthma, heart disease, and auto-immune disorders. We also talked about the regulatory process in approving chemicals, and the lack of transparency in the process, and the lack of testing in the combination of chemicals.

Finally, we talked a lot about the upcoming conference next weekend, April 5th and 6th. The keynote speaker is Joan Dye Gussow, also known as the “Matriarch of the Local Food Movement.” If you haven’t heard Joan speak before, this is a great opportunity to hear from one of the best advocates of the organic movement. She is a nutritionist, educator, writer, gardener; and professor emeritus. She is the former chair of the Nutrition Education Program at Teachers College, Columbia University, and has authored seven books, including This Organic Life: Confessions of a Suburban Homesteader, and Growing, Older.
