iEat Green Shares Interview with Jon Chin, Founder of ‘Share Meals’

Hi All,

Yesterday, I had a great interview with Jon Chin, the founder of Share Meals. Share Meals is an organization dedicated to ending hunger and isolation among students, by allowing students to share their unused, “meal plan meals”. The way it works, is through an app, similar to ride share apps. Students who have extra meals to share, post them on the app, and students looking for a meal, can go on and see where someone has a meal to share, and coordinate the time of sharing. It is an opportunity for students to meet other students who they otherwise might not know, and for people to share a meal together. Any of you who knows me, knows that I understand the power of food, and there is nothing like bringing people together over a shared meal! Many of you might be surprised to hear that hunger is very prevalent at many colleges and universities. Even the expensive ones! Very often, financial assistance doesn’t cover the cost of food, housing and books, so students need to make a choice. Many college campus’s are setting up food pantries to help address this problem, but Share Meals is a perfect example of technology and innovation helping to solve a complex problem.
