Hi Everyone,
I just finished my interview with Lisa Ott, the president and CEO of the North Shore Land Alliance. The North Shore Land Alliance is a not-for-profit land trust formed to protect and preserve the green spaces on Long Island. Lisa and I had a great conversation about land conservation and the work that the North Shore Land Alliance does on Long Island. Since their inception, they have managed to protect and preserve in perpetuity, 1,200 acres of natural habitat, water, wetlands, farmlands, and woodlands. We talked about the governments ’30 x 30 Plan’, also known as the ‘America the Beautiful Plan’, which calls on governments to protect 30% of their land and water by 2030, ( with the aim of 50% by 2050.)
The North Shore Land Alliance, in addition to their Land Conservation and Land Stewardship Programs, offers educational opportunities for both adults and children. Every month they offer programing with their Walk in the Woods, Lectures, Owl Prowls and Bird Watching, Long Island Water Education Program, Young Explorers Group, and Kayaking explorations. They believe you need to love it, to save it, so their programs are designed to develop a love of nature so you’ll want to save it!
