Hi Everybody,
Today I had the pleasure of sharing my passion for cooking and eating real foods with the Orkestai Farm community. I was asked to come to the farm and demonstrate easy recipes that could be made from the vegetables coming out of the fields. Since we expected to be in the field, the recipes couldn’t require electricity or heat, so that limited me to the salad greens and tomatoes. As you can see from the photo, we didn’t end up in the field. Due to the rain, the North Shore Land Alliance opened their doors, and graciously invited us to do our cooking demo there. We made a Mizuna and Arugula Salad with a Balsamic Dressing, making use of the peppers, carrots and cherry tomatoes also coming out of the garden. The second salad we made was a Caprese Salad, using the beautiful variety of heirloom, slicing tomatoes growing at the farm, along with fresh basil and fresh mozzarella with a Balsamic Reduction drizzle. During the demo, I spoke about the need for us all to get back to the kitchen, and start cooking, and how we can imbue the foods we cook with our love. We talked about transparency in our food system, the use of GMO’s, and pesticides and antibiotics in our foods. I wasn’t sure how much of what I was saying was being absorbed by the audience, until they started asking very thoughtful questions. I was really impressed! I look forward to another visit!
We are living during scary times. We have a president that is out of control, and he is giving permission to the racist, neo nazi, gun loving, violent groups to flourish and gain power. We need to pour on the love now, more than ever. Breath, send love, and support values that are good for the planet, your community, your health and the good of future generations.
This week, my guest on the Progressive Radio Network is Pascale Naessens, Belgium Chef, Artist, and Author of Pure Pascale, Pure and Simple. This is Pascale’s 6th book, all of which have reached the top of the Belgium charts. Her message is simple. She recommends a lifestyle that embraces only natural, unprocessed foods. Her approach has only one rule—no carbohydrates with protein. So, you can eat anything you want, but not together. She works with a basic series of food combinations: meat or fish + vegetables; carbohydrates + vegetables; or dairy + vegetables. She does away with the need to count calories or restrict portion sizes., but promises you will lose weight. It’s said that Naessens has “taught her nation to eat healthily.” Please join me on Thursday, to learn more about Pascale’s path to optimum health.
