Hi All,
What a busy summer, and it’s flying by!! So much to do, so many events to attend, so many wonderful people to see, and a garden that keeps on giving and growing. This past Sunday night, I was invited to attend a Farm to Table Dinner, hosted by North Brooklyn Farm, Guayakí Yerba Mate, and Come to Life Productions. It was a wonderful evening of networking, collaboration, and imagining ways to build a stronger community around good food and equality. The folks from Permaculture Action Network were there to help facilitate the conversation and focus the evening on communication and future actions.
This coming Saturday, Slow Food North Shore is hosting a coffee meet-up at the new coffee lounge, Mongo’s in Syosset, where they will provide batch-brewed coffee on the house, along with delicious baked goods by Slow Food members. Come on down and join us from 10-12 noon!
My guest this week on the Progressive Radio Network is Shelley Yael Dennis, MD, Ph.D., who is the Faculty Chair of Health Sciences and Sustainability at Rio Salado College in Tempe, Arizona. Dr. Dennis earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she witnessed the public-health impacts of food-system disparities. Intrigued by the theological implications of systemic inequalities, she went on to earn her doctorate from Drew University. Her transdisciplinary approach integrates political, philosophical, and theological thought in support of more just and sustainable social practices. Her book, Edible Entanglements, takes a look at Food Politics and the problems that arise when the concentration of power is in the hands of agricultural corporations. Please join us on Thursday, as we discuss her book and the issues around food justice and global environmental politics.
