iEat Green Welcomes the Resignation of Pruitt, but Coal Lobbyist, Andrew Wheeler, Might be Even Worse! We All Know Breast Feeding Is the Best Nutrition for Babies, but Our Government Would Rather Be a Formula Pusher! Who is Brett Kavanaugh? Debbie Hillman, Founder of Food, Farms and Democracy Joins Bhavani on PRN!

OMG! Just when you think things couldn’t get worse, they do!!

We pressed our Congress to get rid of Pruitt, but Andrew Wheeler has worked his entire career around protecting the biggest corporate polluters, and now he is in charge of the EPA! We need to speak up now, and get rid of Wheeler before he does more damage. Please let your Senators know how you feel!

After decades of research ( I know, research is science and our government doesn’t believe in science) it has become universally agreed by health professionals, that breast feeding children is best for their health. So this Spring, during a World Health Organization Assembly, a resolution to encourage breast-feeding, and to discourage using formula, was expected to be approved quickly and easily by the hundreds of government delegates who were there. But, that is not what happened!!! Our government would rather protect the interests of infant formula manufacturers, than the health of children around the world. Basically, we are threatening countries that support the resolution with punishing trade measures and a withdrawal of crucial military aid, which they need. It’s ridiculous!

I’m embarrassed to be an American!!

And now we have to deal with the potential of a right wing, conservative Supreme Court Justice who has consistently ruled against environmental protections, including the Clean Water Act and Climate Change regulations, who is not supportive of a women’s right to choose, and who rules in favor of corporate giants. We need to fight the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh!

My guest this week is Debbie Hillman, professional gardener, community activist, and founder of FoodFarmsDemocracy.net, an online site that documents the 21st century U.S. food-and-farm movement, through the activities and perspective of an urban Midwesterner. Debbie also co-founded the Evanston Food Policy Council, which was a  grassroots organization; working to develop a comprehensive food and farm agenda for Illinois from 2005-2014.

FoodFarmsDemocracy.net. focuses on food-and-farm policy and projects, integrating techniques and public policy components involving: money (public banking, co-op business models, crowdfunding, gift economies); democracy (meeting facilitation, inclusion, transparency, participatory budgeting, dialogue & deliberation); and spirituality (connection to highest self, connection all other beings, including non-humans, connection to the universe.) Debbie has expanded her scope to the national level, while still paying attention to regional, state, and local activities.

Please join me on Thursday, as we discuss the issues surrounding Food, Farms and Democracy, and how to integrate alternative methods to get better results.
