Hi Everyone,
As I happily say good-bye to 2020, and welcome in 2021, I want to thank you all for everything you do to make our world a better place. This has been an extremely challenging year, and many of us have had our lives completely transformed by the pandemic. I have found it incredibly important to remember to feed my soul, whether it is in meditation, reading a good book, being in nature, or even playing tennis. It has helped me stay in the moment. This evening I joined the Love, Serve, Remember Foundation’s honor and celebration of Ram Dass’s life. The event/fundraiser, to support the Hanuman Temple in Taos, NM, was recorded and is available for anyone to listen to and watch, now through December 29th. It was such a delightful evening, listening to stories of Ram Dass’s journey to India, his discovery of his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, and his return to America. The evening included a screening of Windfall of Grace, A Film About Neem Karoli Baba, which was like sitting at the Guru’s feet!
I will be taking the next two weeks off from my live radio show, but the Progressive Radio Network will still be broadcasting, and they will be re-playing two of my favorite interviews. This Thursday, December 24th, Michael Livingston, teacher, Head Master and Principle of a rural public school in Vermont, talks about the values he likes to instill in his students, and the direction he sees education going, (pre-pandemic, mind you)!
The following week, Thursday, December 31st, PRN will air my interview with chef and cookbook author, Deborah Madison. Deborah was the head chef at Tassajara Zen Center for 18 years, then worked at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, before opening up her first restaurant, Greens Restaurant in 1979. Deborah is a home gardener and one of the original farm to table chefs. Connecting people to the food they eat, its source and its history, has been her life’s work, and writing is one way to reveal the deeper culture of food. The issues of biodiversity, seasonal and local eating, farmers markets, small and mid-scale farming, farmers and ranchers, gardens and gardeners have all been explored. Deborah has been involved with Slow Food in various capacities for more than a decade, served on the board of the Seed Savers Exchange, and was co-director of the Monte del Sol Edible Kitchen Garden in Santa Fe, New Mexico among other positions.
