Hi Everyone,

I am just returning from an amazing adventure in Peru, where I had the opportunity to experience Virgilio Martínez’s new restaurant Mil Centro, at the ruins of Moray, 12,000 feet above sea level, in the Sacred Valley. His restaurant is not only a restaurant, but it is also a food lab, where he and his interns, do research and experiment with the local ingredients, using the wisdom of the local, indigenous farmers. We enjoyed a 3 hour, 8-course vegetarian meal, made mostly with ingredients I never heard of before! A memorable meal for sure!

Since Thursday is the 4th of July, the Progressive Radio Network is on holiday and will be re-broadcasting past shows.

My interview with Bren Smith, Founder of Thimble Island Oyster Co. and GreenWave will be re-broadcasted this Thursday. Bren is the Executive Director of GreenWave, an ocean farmer and fisherman-run organization, dedicated to supporting a new generation of ocean farmers and innovators who are working to restore ecosystems, mitigate climate change, and build a blue-green economy. He is also the owner of Thimble Island Ocean Farm, where he pioneered the development of restorative 3-D Ocean Farming. Bren is a lifelong commercial fisherman and was named one of Rolling Stone’s “25 People Shaping the Future” and featured in Time Magazine’s, Best Inventions of 2017. He is the winner of the 2015 Buckminster Fuller Challenge, one of the most important prizes in sustainability, and has been profiled by CNN, The New Yorker, and National Geographic.

His new book, Eat Like a Fish, which just came out in May, explores Bren’s path from a fisherman to a restorative ocean farmer. I hope to get him back in the studio soon, to talk about this new book.
