Our Thanksgiving Cooking Extravaganza Starts This Weekend! Please Put a Call Out For Our Coat Drive!!
This time of year is all about Gratitude, about being Thankful for the blessings in our lives, for the people in our lives, and for the Love that surrounds us. It’s also a time to remember that not everyone is as fortunate as we might be, and it provides a wonderful opportunity to give back to those in need. If you haven’t ever experienced iEat Green’s Thanksgiving Feast for the People, you are missing an amazing 4 day cooking and serving extravaganza! Unfortunately, we can not change the system that feeds homelessness or hunger, but we can do what we can, in our own personal lives, to donate our time, energy, money, and political will, to try and make it better. For the past 24 years, I’ve been gathering people in my community to cook for the folks who visit the River Fund NY Food Pantry, and offer them a delicious, home cooked meal, infused with lots of love, during the holidays. (Christmas event will be Dec. 15-18) There are still some spots open if you would like to participate. You can sign up here!
An integral part of our event, is our COAT DRIVE! We show up with thousands of coats and winter items to help people who don’t have adequate heat, stay warm in the winter. Please help me gather coats, hats, gloves, scarfs, sweatshirts, blankets, sleeping bags, tote bags, boots, etc, to share with those in need. Clothing donations can be dropped off at the iEat Green Homestead in Old Westbury, anytime between now and Nov. 18th. (We’ll be collecting again for Christmas)
Obviously, we can also use monetary donations to help offset the cost of this huge event. The River Fund NY is a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax deductible. Checks can be made out to The River Fund NY, 89-11 Lefferts Blvd, Richmond Hill, NY 11418
Our Future Foodies!
A few times a year, I head off to a local nursery school, and talk Soup with the kids. I love it! I get my kid fix, and they get soup! What a perfect exchange! This week, it was Rainbow Vegetable Soup, with a basket full of colorful vegetables, and a big pot of soup, with all of the rainbow colors in it. I love telling them the story of how their bodies are getting bigger and growing, along with their tongues, and that is why parents always tell them to just “try it.” A 2 year old tongue might not like a certain food, but when your tongue turns 3 or 4, you might love it. It is a sign that you are getting bigger and older. They all love that story!
Donna Casali Joins Bhavani to Talk About Toxins in Beauty Products and Personal Care Items on the Progressive Radio Network
Donna Casali is an Executive Director & Founding Member of Beautycounter, a B-Corp whose mission is “to get safer products into the hands of everyone.” Donna describes herself as “a health & wellness educator and advocate, whose focus is what you put on your largest organ, your skin”. Most people don’t realize that many ingredients that are banned in other countries, like Canada and the EU, are allowed in personal care products here in the U.S. These questionable ingredients are known carcinogens and hormone disruptors that can impact our overall health, fertility, and lead to reproductive and developmental issues. Donna has attended meetings with lawmakers both locally and in Washington, D.C., to lobby for better safety standards in personal care products. She is excited to share resources and tips on how to read a product label for “ingredients to avoid” in order to minimize your risk of exposure to toxins. Please join me on Thursday, and find out what toxins you want to avoid!
