iEat Joins Slow Food North Shore to Celebrate the Summer Solstice; iEat Green Welcomes Back Richard Schwartz, Ph.D., to Talk About His New Book, “Who Stole My Religion? Revitalizing Judaism and Applying Jewish Values to Help Heal our Imperiled Planet” on the Progressive Radio Network

Hi All,

We are all gearing up for 2 big events this month. On June 16th, Slow Food North Shore has arranged for a private Tour of Brooklyn Grange, the rooftop farm at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, followed by a tour of Rooftop Reds, a sustainable vineyard also in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. To top off the evening, gourmet local pizzas and salads will be delivered to the rooftop, so we can enjoy a shared meal together, overlooking the city skyline! (gluten free and vegan options available, just let us know) Space is limited. For more info and to purchase tickets, click here.

The second event is a Celebration of the Summer Solstice on June, 17th! We will gather at our local, organic, Restoration Farm in Old Bethpage, for a pot-luck dinner, with guitar soloist, Kenny Brown’s music and great conversation. Cocktail Hour will be provided by one our Snail of Approval Awardees, Rising Tide Natural Foods! Tickets are available at the door, $5.00 for SFNS members and $10.00 for all others. Please let us know you are coming on our Facebook page.

Please join me on Thursday, as I welcome back Richard Schwartz as my guest on PRN. Richard is the former president of Jewish Veg (formally Jewish Vegetarians of North America) and author of many books on the subject. He has dedicated his life to promoting veganism as the moral, social, environmental, healthy, and ethically correct diet for all people. As an activist, and former professor at the College of Staten Island, he has used his platform to spread the message that eating meat is bad for the planet, the future of mankind, and of one’s health. We all know that the mass production of meat releases more green house gas emissions than all of the cars in this country, and that the consumption of meat is one of the major causes of chronic disease, yet this is a conversation most people want to avoid. Why? I think it is because we all have memories and emotional experiences wrapped up around different foods, and we don’t want to feel deprived. Richard Schwartz offers sound knowledge and compelling arguments to help the omnivore, carnivore, flexitarian and even the vegetarian, re-consider their food choices.  And that is where I can be helpful! To inspire you to take your food memory into the kitchen, and create an alternative food that can replace that comfort food, and make it more healthy for you and better for the planet. Check out some of my recipes! Please tune in in Thursday, and join me in interviewing Richard Schwartz.

Remember, my show is recorded live, every Thursday, from 10-11 am, EST.  To tune in, navigate to PRN.fm and click the “Listen Live” button on the left.
