In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Organic Foods Production Act, the Cornucopia Institute asked Elizabeth Henderson, one of the early champions of the modern-day organic movement, to reflect on what the label means to her. Elizabeth is an author and activist, and sat on the board of NOFA-NY with me for the past few years. She grew organically grown vegetables at Peacework Farm in New York for more than 30 years, and continues advocating for organic agriculture and food justice issues on the local, state and national level.
Her essay, Standing on the Shoulders of our Ancestors and Linking Hands around the World gives a full understanding of the history of the organic movement, and where we need to go from here.
