In the News: Meatless Mondays Available in All NYC Schools! The 37th National Pesticide Forum Is Coming to NY! It’s Time to Sign Up for a CSA!! A Cheat Sheet for the Green New Deal!

On Monday, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that every NYC school will start to offer a Meatless Lunch Option on Mondays, as part of the Meatless Monday Campaign, in addition to hummus! We have the Coalition for Healthy School Food to thank for that! Their hard work has paid off!

The 37th National Pesticide Forum is a two-day, multi-media event on April 5th and 6th, 2019. The Forum brings together keynote speakers, plenary discussions and workshops on science, policy, and action to protect the environment and people from toxic pesticides and advance policies and practices for healthy communities. Come and learn from the experts, and find out how to protect you and your family from the toxins lurking in our environment!

And if you are not a member of a CSA yet, you might want to consider buying a share! Joining a Community Supported Agriculture Program is one of the best ways to guarantee you will have fresh, seasonal, organic vegetables at all times during the growing season. Every CSA program is unique. Some offer just produce, while others have “add on” options like fruit, flowers, cheese, bread, eggs, meat and fish. To help consumers compare the different CSA programs, NOFA-NY (Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York), Slow Food North Shore, the Long Island Food Coalition and iEat Green are bringing all of the farmers under one roof, to meet with potential customers and to make connections at the Long Island CSA Fair on Saturday, April 13th!

The Green New Deal is the talk around town, and Food First just came out with a great primer on the issues! Check it out!
