We have a Newly Elected President and Vice President!
What a relief to have the election behind us, and to know that the new President will be a person with empathy, compassion, moral standards, and human values that our children can emulate. And our new Vice President is the first of many, the first woman, the first black woman, the first woman with immigrant parents, and the first woman with Asian roots, to hold the second highest office in this country! This is worth celebrating!! I only wish more of the country felt the same way. We are so divided. It will be interesting to watch the drama coming out of the White House unfold in the next few months. In the end, we will prevail, and our new administration will put us back on track.
Scholarships for NOFA-NY’s Winter Conference are Now Available!
This years theme for the NOFA-NY’s Annual Winter Conference is Rooted in Resilience, which reflects the ability of organic systems to embrace challenges: no matter whether it’s a global pandemic, unprecedented weather, a new pest, or the loss of an important market. As most conferences this year, they will be going virtual, so you’ll be able to join from the comfort of your own home.
Sliding Scale: NOFA-NY is offering two price points in an effort to make the conference more accessible to a broader audience. All participants will have the same level of access regardless of how much is paid for registration.
Early bird pricing and registration will open later this month, but now is the time to apply for a scholarship.

This is National Diabetes Month! The States that Voted Red, are also the States with the Highest Overweight and Obesity Populations.
It seems more than just a coincidence that the States with the highest obesity rates are also the states that voted for Trump. This is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and with obesity leading to nearly $200 billion in U.S. health care costs each year, it behooves our nation to get it under control. The personal-finance website, WalletHub released its report on 2020’s Most Overweight & Obese States in America, along with interesting stats about diabetes in its Facts & Statistics infographic. They looked at 31 key metrics, ranging from overweight and obese population to sugary-beverage consumption among adolescents to obesity-related health care costs.
What does this say about the mindset of the majority of people in those states? Does the over consumption of sugar cloud ones ability to see through the lies and despicable behavior of our nations current president? This is the perfect example of why we need to address our food system and food education in this nation, and we need to start when the kids are young!
