Still looking for a meaningful gift to give this Holiday Season? Give Your Support to Science.
With recent news concerning the recent barring of certain words including “science-based,” “fetus,” “transgender” and “vulnerable,” in agency budget documents by officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; now, more than ever, is the time to contribute to our people’s movement, advocating for transparency and the consumer’s right to know! One way we can more quickly achieve this dream of democracy now is for policymakers to work with, not against experts in the fields of science and food (just to name a couple) for what we believe are shared goals in public health and the environment.
Science Not Silence; a beautiful, inspiring book that will be released in Spring 2018 by MIT Press. You can pre-order your book today, until Jan. 15, at a discount! Through artwork, stories, and photographs, the book celebrates the success of the movement, amplifies the passion and creativity of its supporters, and reminds everyone how important it is to keep marching.
“Science Not Silence shares a sample of the voices that continue to breathe life into the March for Science movement. Every story is a call to action to continue protecting the role of science in our policies, our classrooms, and our neighborhoods. The march was just the beginning. Now the real work begins.” – March for Science Team
Help the Cornucopia Institute Keep the Integrity of Organic Standards Intact
TAKE ACTION: The Cornucopia Institute needs your help in asking seven leading retail stores to help protect consumers from “fake organic” products. Please download this letter, sign and return to Cornucopia (address provided at the bottom of the letter).
“USDA organic standards are intended to protect consumers, and for the most part, they do. Unfortunately, as food manufacturers catch on to how fast the market for organics is growing, and how much profit is to be made, some of them cut corners. Companies like Aurora (milk) and Herbruck’s (eggs) made headlines this past year for scamming consumers with their “fake” organic products. Retailers like Costco, Walmart, Target and others not only sell these brands, but they also sell them under their own private labels as store brands. So consumers may be buying Aurora milk or Herbruck’s eggs without even knowing it.” – Organic Consumers Association (OCA)
Urge Your Representative to Protect Organic Certification Cost-Share Program
The organic certification cost-share program helps organic farms stay in business and is especially important for small and mid-size farms. We need to support local, organic farms and our regional economies. Without adequate support, we will become increasingly reliant on imports for organic food.
