Support the Democrats “Green New Deal” To Help Curb Climate Change
Newly elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is pushing her fellow Democrats to create a Green New Deal – a plan to transform our economy and society at the scale needed to stop the climate crisis.
The Green New Deal would be a sweeping overhaul of the economy away from fossil fuel towards 100 percent clean energy. Named for Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal that helped lift the United States out of the Depression, the Green New Deal would not only fight climate change, but also includes a federal jobs guarantee, universal health care and a universal basic income.
Fifteen House Democrats have already signed onto the Green New Deal resolution, but so far Democratic leaders have not backed the plan. We need to pressure them now to make sure the Green New Deal is on the agenda when Democrats take over the House of Representatives in January.

Protect the Delaware River Basin from Dangerous Fracking
Our government currently keeps trying to deregulate a lot of the existing laws affecting the use of fracking in our waters to allow for more gas and oil pipelines. This could mean some very serious problems could be affecting our watershed, and in turn the ecosystems in that area as well. The Delaware River Basin helps provide 17 million people with fresh drinking water in the Northeast region. Despite it’s huge importance to the Northeast community, it has been at risk for oil fracking for over ten years now.

Last year, the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), comprised of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, Delaware Governor John Carney, and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, released draft regulations banning fracking in the entire watershed — but these new rules don’t go far enough. Tell Kellogg’s to Label Products Correctly!
Right now when you go into the grocery store, there are many products that you don’t even know are GMO products. Kellogg products are a huge name brand who has decided to not label their GMO products clearly.
Before the end of the year, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is going to require labeling of all food products that contain GMO’s, for the first time ever.
Rather than a clear text or a symbol label to indicate GMO’s, companies will have the choice to use a QR code (a square symbol that resembles a bar code) on the package instead. This will require the consumer to have a smartphone in order to scan the code and find out the results.
Kellogg’s is one of the companies choosing the QR code. They know that over 100 million Americans do not have smartphones and are therefore unable to scan QR codes. These are primarily the low-income, elderly, rural, and minority populations. Kellogg’s also knows that a 2017 USDA study found that even the customers who own smartphones had trouble scanning these QR codes more than 85% of the time! They are purposely doing this to make it harder for consumers to know if the product contains GMO’s. We as consumers deserve to know what ingredients are in our foods!
