Take Action: 1000 Gardens in Africa, Expose the TPP

Not Just Any Garden

Slow Food is embarking on an ambitious project to create food gardens in every Terra Madre community across Africa, assisting them in their work to cultivate more sustainable and healthy regions. The ?Thousand Gardens in Africa? project provides education for farmers and young people, encourages the awareness of local plants and biodiversity, as well as respect for the environment through the sustainable use of soil and water. It means the passing-on of knowledge from the old to the young and a reinforced spirit of collaboration. A garden, in addition, guarantees a daily supply of fresh and healthy food to local communities, improving the quality of daily life and the development of local economies.

Let us change the course of rising malnourishment, increased food for import, and erosion of traditional agriculture by contributing to the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity and reinforce our value on good, clean, local food as necessary for families and communities to thrive.

?What is the TPP?

The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a free trade agreement currently being negotiated behind closed doors by officials from the US and 11 other countries:? Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam.? Although it is called a fair trade agreement, the TPP is not really mainly about trade.? Of the TPP’s 29 draft chapters, only 5 deal with traditional trade issues.? Most would set rules on non-trade matters that affect our daily lives:? food safety, internet freedom, medicine costs, job off-shoring, financial regulation, and more.? Our domestic policies would be required to comply with the TPP rules.

Fast Track is the mechanism that will allow the Obama administration to circumvent constitutional checks and balances to ram the TPP process through Congress, just like his predecessors did with NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and the WTO (World Trade Organization).

Take action.? Derail Fast Track.? Stop the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
