Take Action: Ask Governor Cuomo to Sign the Toxic Chemical Bills Sitting on His Desk!

The New York State Legislature passed three bills that take action on toxic chemicals in our food, water, and communities. Now we need to let Governor Cuomo know that we want him to sign them into law!!

These are the toxic chemical bills the state legislature passed this year:

  • The Child Safe Products Act: This bill requires manufacturers to report the presence of various chemicals of concern in children’s products to the Department of Environmental Conservation. It also phases out six dangerous chemicals in children’s products, like asbestos and formaldehyde.
  • A bill to phase out the brain-harming chemical chlorpyrifos: This bill bans this dangerous pesticide used on fruit, vegetable, and nut crops in New York. Studies have shown that exposure to chlorpyrifos during pregnancy and early life can lead to an increased risk of learning disabilities.
  • A bill to phase out the unnecessary use of toxic chemicals in fire-fighting foam: This bill would phase out the use of toxic PFAS chemicals in firefighting foam, except in limited circumstances. It would also require notification to firefighters when personal protective equipment they use contains PFAS. Studies have shown that exposure to PFAS chemicals can lead to cancer and other health impacts. Firefighters face especially high exposures to these harmful chemicals.
