The Burning of Toxic Fire Suppressant Foam is an environmental justice issue that needs our attention!

Fire fighter foam (AFFF), contains PFAS, which are highly toxic, fluorinated chemicals, also known as “forever chemicals.” These chemicals build up in our bodies and never break down in the environment. Very small doses of PFAS have been linked to cancer, reproductive and immune system problems, and other diseases. Earth Justice and other community groups have filed a lawsuit against the Department of Defense for sending AFFF to the Norlite hazardous waste incinerator in Cohoes and a half-dozen other sites around the country. The Norlite hazardous waste incinerator is just a few steps from a public housing complex where approximately 70 families live.
