Goggle: Bail on Climate Denier Lobby Group ALEC
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) continues to frequently lose members, and the lastest member to drop off is Microsoft. What is the reason for the continued reduction in members? ALEC writes and pushes legislation that is not only very conservative, but also pro-big business and anti-environment.?Microsoft was a member of ALEC?s Communications and Technology Task Force, but said it is no longer participating in this group. Unfortunately, Google is still a member. Ironically, Google’s motto is “Don’t Be Evil,” but the company funds one of the worst climate denier groups in the world. The corporate-front group fights to kill renewable energy standards and says global warming is a good thing. Google has been a corporate leader in fighting climate pollution, but support of ALEC contradicts the company’s climate change commitments. Google chairman Eric Schmidt even said, “You can lie about the effects of climate change, but eventually you’ll be seen as a liar.” Click here to tell Google to live up to its “Don’t be evil” motto and stop funding ALEC.
EPA: Fracking Chemicals Shouldn’t Be Secret!
Fracking is an extreme method of extracting oil and natural gas by pumping toxic chemicals underground. Despite the serious risks involved in the process, fracking companies are exempt from key environmental protections. There’s no amount of transparency that will make fracking safe, but disclosure of the chemicals used in the process will give communities more power to fight back. The Environmental Protection Agency is accepting public comments on whether or not to require fracking companies to disclose the toxic chemicals they use. Click here to demand that fracking chemicals be exposed.
Get Koch Money Out of Politics
The Koch brothers and other billionaires are spending huge sums of money to buy elections, and make the rich even richer. Please sign the petition on MoveOn.org to defend American democracy by supporting S.J. Res. 19, a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court rulings of Citizens United and McCutcheon.? There are currently 122,287 signatures, but they need 125,000 signatures! The agenda of the Koch brothers is to repeal every major piece of legislation that has been signed into law over the past 80 years that has protected the middle class, the elderly, the children, the sick, and the most vulnerable in this country. Our great nation can no longer be hijacked by right-wing billionaires like the Koch brothers. For the sake of our children and our grandchildren, for the sake of our economy, we have got to let democracy prevail.? Make no mistake, the Citizens United ruling has radically changed the nature of our democracy, further tilting the balance of power toward the rich and the powerful at a time when already the wealthiest people in this country have never had it so good. With the Citizens United decision, the Supreme Court is telling billionaires to go ahead and buy the U.S. government. We must not allow that to happen. Click here to take action.
