A Step Closer to Banning Styrofoam in NYS
Governor Cuomo proposed to ban Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam, commonly referred to as “Styrofoam,” as part of his 2020 State of the State proposals. Styrofoam poses a significant risk to human health and to the health of our environment. There is no reason to continue using this harmful material when sustainable alternatives are readily available. Many counties in NYS have been stepping up to protect their communities and have banned Styrofoam, while others have passed resolutions calling on New York to enact a statewide ban. Now it is time for New York to ban Styrofoam packaging, which will protect our natural resources, reduce litter in our parks and waterways, benefit local recycling programs, and protect public health. Email elected leaders in New York today to support a statewide ban on Styrofoam!
Help the Consumer Product Safety Commission Protect Us!
The way the law is written now, the Consumer Product Safety Commission can only go public with information about dangerous and deadly products if the manufacturer agrees to it. That’s ridiculous! During the past decade, dozens of babies died after being placed in a certain type of infant sleeper, but the manufacturer refused to go public with the information, and more babies died because of it.
You can help to stop the secrecy surrounding dangerous products by sending a message right now to Congress. Consumer Reports is backing a bill that will make sure the Consumer Product Safety Commission quickly tells consumers about unsafe products, even if the manufacturer wants to keep it quiet! Please send a message now!
Protect Another Natural Spring from Nestlé’s Greed!
Ginnie Springs is a hidden oasis. Located in northwestern Florida along the Sante Fe River, the freshwater spring is home to an extensive underwater cave system and numerous turtle species that nest along the banks. However, it is in danger of being exploited. Nestlé has filed a permit, which, if approved, will allow the food and beverage giant to drain as many as 1.1 million gallons of water a day from the natural spring.
This vibrant oasis should be protected, not bottled up and sold. Add your name to oppose Nestlé’s plan to deplete Ginnie Springs.
Don’t Let Trump Roll Back the National Environmental Policy Act!
Trump is trying to gut the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This is our environmental bedrock of protection, and he wants to make it easier for corporate polluters to build without regard for the environmental impact that their project would have. We need everyone’s help in preventing this from happening!
