Help Farmworkers Get the Protection They Deserve!

Farmworkers, food workers, and farmers are considered essential during the COVID-19 pandemic, yet they are not getting the support they need. They risk their health and safety to keep our food system flowing, but they’re not provided with the necessary resources to protect themselves, and they are not paid a fair living wage!

Please let your voice be heard and tell Congress they must provide emergency protections for food workers.

USDA Funds “Farmers to Families Food Box” Program

As part of the Coronavirus Farm Assistance Program, Secretary Perdue announced on April 17 that the USDA will purchase and distribute up to $3 billion of agricultural products to those in need. USDA will partner with regional and local distributors, whose workforce has been significantly impacted by the closure of many restaurants, hotels, and other food service entities, to purchase fresh produce, dairy, and meat.

Agricultural Marketing Service’s Commodity Procurement Program will procure an estimated $100 million per month in fresh fruits and vegetables, $100 million per month in a variety of dairy products, and $100 million per month in meat products. The distributors and wholesalers will then provide a pre-approved box of fresh produce, dairy, and meat products to food banks, community and faith-based organizations, and other non-profits serving Americans in need.
