The US Army Corps of Engineers proposed that New York build huge storm surge barriers along the river to protect us from sea level rise, without any regard for the natural tides and living eco-system that lives in and around the river. Local activists stood up, and managed to put off the surge barriers, but we need more people to speak up to support the Water Resources Development Act of 2020! This bill directs the US Army Corps of Engineers to implement resilient, nature-based approaches to flood risk reduction and water quality improvements, while directing resources toward disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.
Please take action to ensure that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will put these better ideas into practice as Congress intended.
Send a message asking the Army to provide clear “implementation guidance” on these goals, contained in the Water Resources Development Act of 2020.
