Tell Washington State’s Attorney General: Investigate the GMA’s Money Laundering Scheme
A group of concerned moms and citizens were fed up with the millions of dollars in out-of-state donations pouring into the NO on I-522 campaign in Washington State so they formed a grassroots group, called Moms for Labeling. They found that the Washington D.C.-based Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) was hiding donations from its corporate members. So Moms for Labeling sued the GMA for violating state disclosure laws by laundering money for big corporate interests.?The judge hearing the Moms for Labeling?s case rejected the lawsuit, on a technicality and then imposed a $10,000 fine on the grassroots group after the GMA countersued the Moms: In dismissing the suit, the judge ruled that under the circumstances, only the state attorney general now has the authority to sue the GMA for violating Washington?s Public Disclosure Act.? The GMA, which represents over 300 corporations including Kraft, Kellogg?s, Monsanto, Dupont, Starbucks, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, ConAgra and General Mills, has kicked in $7.2 million so far to defeat a similar GMO labeling initiative. Who?s missing from the NO on I-522 donor roster? The junk food giants who spent millions last year, but this year, are hiding their donations from public view. Let?s pick up where the Moms for Labeling left off, by insisting that Washington?s attorney general force the GMA to comply with the state?s campaign disclosure laws. Click here to take action.
Tell Obama Campaign Strategist Anita Dunn: Stop working for Keystone XL?
Anita Dunn gained enormous influence and access to the Obama White House as a top strategist who helped get the president elected in 2008, partially on his commitment to action on climate. ?Now she?s cashing in on that close relationship by working on behalf of TransCanada to push for approval of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. We need to call out her unprincipled and hypocritical work trying to force approval of Keystone XL. Not surprisingly, Dunn hasn?t been forthcoming about her work for TransCanada. She claims the work for TransCanada by her consulting firm, SKDKnickerbocker, is strictly limited to PR — like the xenophobic and misleading ad the firm produced and launched last week. But the truth is that Dunn maintains close ties with the president ? she?s visited the White House over 110 times since leaving her job there,3 including at least a dozen times already this year. With insider access like that, you can bet TransCanada isn?t just paying SKDK and Dunn for ad production. Tell Anita Dunn: Drop TransCanada as a client, and stop promoting Keystone XL!
Stop The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)
The Obama Administration is currently negotiating, in secret, a massive so called free trade agreement called the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). TPP leaks indicate that this agreement will greatly empower Corporations by virtually eliminating consumer, health, safety, labor, privacy and environmental regulations. In essence this will be a global Corporate coup. In order to get this through congress President Obama will be asking Congress to approve fast track legislation. We urge all our Congressional representatives, Senators and Representatives alike to vote no on fast track legislation. Click here to take action against this frightening piece of legislation.
